GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the West Guwahati Police Department (WGPD) successfully apprehended two individuals involved in circulating counterfeit currency notes on Monday.
Acting on credible intelligence, the SOG swiftly carried out the operation, leading to the arrest of Md Saddam Hussain, a resident of Beharbari, and Md Mahmood Hasan from Gossaigaon.
During the operation, law enforcement officials seized three bundles of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) comprising a total of 290 notes, all in ₹500 denominations. Additionally, two mobile handsets were confiscated as potential evidence.
The Guwahati police have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested individuals.
According to reports, the two accused are likely to face charges related to forgery, currency counterfeiting, and illegal possession of counterfeit currency, among others.
