Gauhati University Exam Scam: Profs Call For Independent Probe

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University Teachers’ Association (GUTA) convened an urgent executive meeting to address the recent examination scam that has surfaced, sparking widespread concern among the academic community. The meeting, presided over by GUTA President Prof. Taranee Deka, underscored the need for an independent investigation and comprehensive reforms to restore the integrity of the university’s examination system.

Expressing deep dismay over the incident, GUTA has called for a thorough inquiry into the examination process, to be led by a retired judge. The association emphasised that the investigation should adhere strictly to the provisions of the Gauhati University Act to ensure impartiality and accountability.

GUTA has specifically demanded that the external agency responsible for managing the Integrated University Management System (IUMS) — tasked with maintaining examination records — be held accountable. The association urged the university administration to provide clarity on how such a breach occurred and to outline steps to prevent future occurrences.

GUTA highlighted the importance of safeguarding the academic and professional futures of the students affected by this scam. The association called for immediate and stringent measures to secure the examination process and prevent any recurrence of similar incidents.
