Guwahati to Follow Only Containment Zone Concept Until Revised Orders by State Govt

GUWAHATI: State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier mentioned in a press conference that the Assam government had earlier written to the Centre seeking permission for allowing Assam not to demarcate districts as Red, Orange and Green zones, but to apply only the containment and buffer zone concept.

As per the new Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines for lockdown 4.0, the states and UTs are to take their own decisions about demarcating its zones into red, orange or green and thereafter its containment and buffer zones.

Further, the same guidelines also mention that, "State/UT Governments shall not dilute these guidelines issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, in any matter. All the District Magistrates shall strictly enforced the above measures."

Until revised orders issued by the Assam government, Guwahati continues to remain out of any coloured demarcation due to COVID-19, although the city has had a number of containment zones throughout.

Sarma said, "We are not following red, orange or green zones as it affects the livelihood of many. Guwahati is a big city and the whole city cannot have blanket lockdown due to positive cases in some areas."
