GUWAHATI: Guwahati is expected to be linked with other railway zones by means of electric trains by the end of this year.
According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), electrification of 1085 km of railway tracks is scheduled to be completed by December.
The electrification will include the Raninagar-Jalpaiguri-New Bongaigaon -Rangiya – Guwahati segment, among others.

In a statement, NRF chief PRO PJ Sharma said: “A total of 534 km of railway lines have already been electrified and an additional 2,631 km will be electrified and an additional 2,631 km will be electrified by March, 2020.
“The process of electrification of the rest 3077 km is also progressing at a fast pace.”
Sharma further noted that the railways electrification work in NRF began 2 years back.
Currently, 21 pairs of passenger trains and 14 goods trains originating from NRF are running on electric traction.
