GUWAHATI: Residents in Guwahati are grappling with a puzzling situation as streets remain illuminated around the clock and have raised concerns about energy wastage and unnecessary expenditures.

Residents in various neighborhoods have noticed this unusual occurrence, sparking questions about the efficiency of the city's lighting infrastructure.

Speaking to GPlus, a resident of Kharghuli said, "In some of our lanes, most streetlights are non-functional, and here on GS Road, we see streetlights lit up even in broad daylight."

Similarly, Parishmita Das from Hatigaon said, "In many lanes like Sewali Path and Naharani Path, a significant number of streetlights are out of order. However, it's surprising to witness streetlights on GS Road staying illuminated during the daytime."

Adding to the mystery, an employee near GTAC, seeking anonymity said, "For the past few days, we have noticed streetlights switched on even during the day. It's ironic when some people in the city don't even have electricity in their homes."

While these observations raise eyebrows among residents, there seems to be a glimmer of explanation.

However, talking to GPlus, a senior official from Guwahati Utilities Company Limited said, "The lights were switched on for some work purposes. We are aware of the issue and will look into this matter immediately."
