Guwahati Sports Association Teams Up With NEUFC For Dual Football Tournaments

 

GUWAHATI: In a bid to improve the football scenario in Assam, the Guwahati Sports Association will hold its own flagship tournament. 

During a press conference, the secretary of Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) Devajit Saikia stated that, there is an absence of youth enthusiasm towards football in Assam.

He further stated that, given the scenario of All India Football Association (AIFF) who has taken up the responsibility of conducting the Bordoloi Trophy which will be a qualifying tournament for Santosh Trophy. 

The GSA along with the Northeast United Football Club has decided to hold two local tournaments. 

The "Youth and Kids League" tournament is designed to promote grassroots involvement in the sport. It will cater to various age groups, including under 7, under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15, and under 17. The tournament will be categorised into three levels:

Foundation Level: Matches will be played in a 5 vs 5 format, including both boys and girls in the age groups under 7 and under 9.

Intermediate Level: This level will feature a 7 vs 7 format exclusively for boys in the age groups under 11 and under 13.

Advanced Stage: Matches at this level will be conducted in a 9 vs 9 format and will include both boys and girls in the under 15 and under 17 age groups.

The Guwahati Sports Association is also set to host the 'Guwahati Premier Football League,' scheduled to run from December 1, 2023, to January 12, 2024.

This tournament will witness the participation of 16 teams, with 14 being office teams and the remaining two representing the top club football teams. A total of 59 matches are slated for this event.

Among the office teams taking part are well-known names such as AG Office, Oil India, Reserve Bank of India Team, Railway Team, Assam Police Team, and a representative team from the Indian Army.

These tournaments will provide a significant platform for aspiring football players, offering them a valuable opportunity to showcase their skills and potentially earn the chance to represent the Indian national team on a broader stage.
