GUWAHATI: At least seven students from Assam Engineering College (AEC) were killed in a road accident that took place in Jalukbari in front of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) on Sunday night.
The accident took place after the SUV, in which the students were travelling, lost control and hit a divider before colliding with a DI pickup van parked on Jalukbari Flyover road.
A total of 10 students were inside the SUV and three people were inside the DI pickup van.
The Jalukbari Police confirmed that the police arrived promptly at the scene; however, they were unable to save the deceased as they had already succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Apart from the deceased, three students and the three men in the pickup van sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further treatment.
As per information received from the attending GMCH doctors, out of the six injured, one is in critical condition but the other five are stable.
The police are further investigating the matter and further details are awaited.
