GUWAHATI: The District Transport Office (DTO) of Kamrup Metro is on a spree to nab school buses that have been running without renewing their documents. The Department will take strict action on all such school buses in Guwahati after March 15.

The Transport Department has been urging people to renew their vehicular documents and clear off the arrear taxes. Guwahati has about 1200 school buses, of this figure, only about 500 have cleared all taxes and renewed their documents.

The remaining 700 have been functioning without renewed documents has led to a loss of over Rs 10 crore revenue to the Department.

DTO officer (Licensing and Registration) Gautam Das told G Plus that several buses have already been fined.
"We are presently not nabbing all together as schools have reopened and students will face problems if we start the enforcement drive in full force. But after March 15, no consideration will be made," Das added.

Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Rafikul Islam said that Rs 5,000 has been fined against each tax violation and Rs 10,000 for permit violation. "The drive started on March 6 and will continue until all have been cleared," Islam said.
