Multiple such incidents can be witnessed on the Bishnu Ram Medhi flyover in G.S Road, Ulubari, Shraddhanjali Flyover in Zoo road where people have been seen taking illegal u-turns for their convenience. These create major traffic mismanagement which has led to collisions in the oncoming traffic. Despite traffic regulations in place, many drivers continue to make unauthorised U-turns, often at busy intersections or stretches of roads, endangering pedestrians and other vehicles.

This reckless behaviour not only slows down traffic flow but also increases the likelihood of accidents, particularly during peak hours. Key areas such as GS Road, Beltola, and Chandmari. Residents and commuters are urging the authorities to take strict action by installing barricades at vulnerable spots, increasing surveillance, and imposing hefty fines on violators.

Talking to GPlus, a senior traffic official said, “This is an awareness-based issue and needs to be addressed at the core. Such behaviour is deterred and caught by us at various places where we can intercept. We try to impose restrictions and fines whenever we catch anyone taking such illegal U-turns but this is all based on presence of the personnel at that moment. Barricades are also put up to discourage such lawlessness but in the end, the citizens have to also be aware and abide by the proper traffic regulations and driving laws.”

The need of the hour now is that the traffic laws and imposition need to be stern and stricter so as to avoid any such mishaps along with deterring such behaviour.
