GUWAHATI: The residents of Rehabari Bilpar area have been facing water logging problems for a long time. The situation for locals in that area has become a living hell due to the clogging of a drain that passes through their backyard.
The drain connects the area to the Bilpar pond where all the water is supposed to get accumulated. Thus, because of continuous clogging of the drain and negligence by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in cleaning it, the dirty water overflows from the drain into the houses of locals nearby.
The residents have been facing this problem for 10 to 12 years now. Even after repeated complaints, no action has been taken yet by GMC authorities yet.
The last time the drain was cleaned was about 9 months back. The situation becomes worse specially after rainfall when the dirty drain water flows inside the houses posing a serious health hazard to the residents of that area.
