Guwahati: ₹50 Lakh Announced For Development Of Ulubari Boxing Club

 

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma graced the eve of the All Assam Inter-district boxing championship inauguration, emphasizing the pivotal role of sports culture and education in shaping their lives and announced a donation of ₹50 lakh towards the development of Ulubari Boxing Club, on Tuesday.

Joined by Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya, and GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Sharma called for the establishment of a thriving sporting environment.

To combat the escalating issue of drug abuse among the youths, Sharma claimed that sports, culture, and education must play a very defining role in their lives.

“Sports not only brings glory in the form of medals and reputation but also plays a significant role in building character among the youth,” stated CM Sarma.

 Pointing towards the illustrious history of the Ulubari Boxing Club, which has nurtured some of Assam's finest boxing talents, Sarma declared that he has collaborated with the East Guwahati MLA to donate ₹50 lakh towards the upliftment of the club.

This gesture is aimed at providing the necessary support and infrastructure to develop budding boxing talents and strengthen the state's sporting prowess.

This inter-district boxing tournament has garnered significant attention, witnessing the impressive participation of 500 individuals from 30 districts across Assam, including prominent regions such as Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, and Chirang.

Notably, participants from the Railway department have also joined the event, adding to its diversity.

This prestigious competition is seen as a crucial platform for the contestants, offering them the opportunity to compete at the national level and proudly represent Assam in the process.
