GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (M) District Transport of Enforcement branch has directed that app-based bike taxi riders will soon have uniforms. The decision comes after the issue was discussed at a meeting with DC Kamrup(M) Pallav Gopal Jha between Cab Service Providers and Cab Association in Guwahati on June 1.
"PeIndia bike riders will be given uniforms on June 15. Rapido has assured DTO that they will start a uniform dress code for their riders from June 20. Ola bike and Uber motto will start operating with new uniforms starting June 25." DTO Enforcement Himangshu Das said.
The official said that cab drivers will also eventually get uniforms in later phases but the new regulation has been initiated with bike riders. He said that the initiative has been taken so that it's easier to identify a bike app professional from a citizen and to identify which companies bike riders are employed with.
CMD of Peindia cabs, Ravi Choudhury told G Plus that the company will give out yellow coloured uniforms to its riders starting June 15. Choudhury says, "Our uniforms for riders are ready. As per DTO's direction, the uniforms will be yellow and will bear the company logo. Uniforms for all cab apps will be yellow so that riders can be spotted from far even in the dark. This move has been taken for security purposes so that a customer can tell who is a bike app rider and who is not."
Further, he informed that uniforms have not yet been introduced for cabs as they already have company stickers and logos on cars. He said, "Cabs drivers can be identified as it has a different look and colour. Moreover, cabs use company logo stickers because of which customers can identify them as the cab they booked and feel safe. This regulation will be extended to cab drivers in later phases".
DTO Enforcement Himangshu Das also said that strict action has been taken against those cab drivers whom customers had complained about. He said, "We suspend drivers from all apps and take him off-duty after we conduct a hearing. We have even arrested drivers who had complaints filed against them."
