GUWAHATI: Water scarcity has gripped Guwahati, leaving residents in various parts of the city struggling to access basic drinking water for their daily needs. The crisis has persisted for over five days, forcing many to purchase water from private suppliers at exorbitant rates ranging between ₹300 to ₹500 per delivery. However, even these services have been inconsistent, adding to the residents' woes.

The ongoing shortage has led to mounting frustration among the public, who have voiced their grievances against the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) for what they perceive as a casual approach to the issue. Speaking to GPlus, a GJB official explained the cause of the disruption, stating, "As we are increasing the areas for water supply, the main transmission line has been shut off. At present, we are working on a valve situation. The supply will resume at the earliest."
The water supply was abruptly cut off on August 29, and despite assurances from the GJB, the situation remains unresolved. Residents, already burdened by the financial strain of purchasing water, are now questioning the Board's preparedness and ability to manage the city's water infrastructure effectively.
Local residents have been vocal in their criticism, with many expressing their dissatisfaction with the prolonged outage and the lack of clear communication from the authorities. "We have been left with no choice but to buy water, and even that is not always available. The situation is becoming unbearable," said one frustrated resident.
The GJB's statement has done little to assuage the public's concerns, with many fearing that the issue could persist if not addressed urgently. The ongoing crisis has highlighted the critical need for improved infrastructure and better management to ensure a reliable water supply in Guwahati.
