GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has received the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) authorisation for the introduction of AC electric traction for trains like Rajdhani Express and Tejas Rajdhani Express from Guwahati to the National capital and other major cities of the country without change of traction enroute.

The authorisation was received on November 4, on the occasion of Diwali.

Guwahati is now connected with all major cities through 25KV AC traction, informed the Ministry of Railways. The Guwahati  Railway Station is the biggest and busiest railway station in the Northeast.

Electrification work of 649 Route KM /1294 Track KM from Katihar to Guwahati was recently completed. As such a  total of HDN (High Density Network) routes (649 RKM) falling in NFR have been commissioned with electric traction, connecting New Delhi to Guwahati seamlessly.

However, the NF Railway has already started running trains with electric traction up to the Kamakhya station. The first passenger train, the Brahmaputra Mail, with AC traction arrived at the Kamakhya station on October 22.

This electrification work will save foreign exchange reserves spent on High Speed Diesel Oil and will provide greener transportation and reduced carbon footprints.
