GUWAHATI: A recent murder at Radisson Blu, Guwahati had sent shockwaves across the city. The murder took place on February 5 in context to which two individuals have also been arrested.
The individual identified as a businessman Sandeep Suresh Kamble was found dead in a pool of blood in a room of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Guwahati.
The tragedy unfolded when a call to the hotel reception at 4 PM yesterday raised concerns about the guest in Room No 922. Upon investigation, DCP West Guwahati along with ADCP West, ACP Jalukbari, and Officer-In-Charge of Jalukbari Police Outpost discovered the crime scene, leading to the initiation of a thorough inquiry.
An FIR was immediately registered at Jalukbari Police Station, based on the victim's brother's complaint. Forensic teams from FSL, Guwahati, and fingerprint experts from CID were called in to scrutinise the crime scene.
The investigation uncovered a sinister plot involving Anjali Shaw and her boyfriend Vikash Kumar Shaw. Sandeep Kamble's past involvement with Anjali led to a volatile relationship, ultimately culminating in a scuffle leading to the murder.
Details from Radisson Blu Hotel records revealed that Sandeep had checked in with Anjali Shaw at 12:50 PM on February 5. CCTV footage also implicated Anjali leaving the room with another person at 2:45 PM, later identified as Vikash Kumar Shaw who was staying in Room No 1024.
To provide context to the incident, Sandeep Suresh Kamble, a Pune-based businessman, had a tumultuous relationship with Anjali Shaw, a store manager at a Kolkata restaurant. Their intimacy escalated to blackmail by Sandeep, leading Anjali and her boyfriend Vikash to hatch a plan to retrieve Sandeep's phones.
The motive behind the plan was Sandeep's persistent pressure on Anjali to break off her relationship with Vikash. Their intent was to get hold of the victim’s phone which had incriminating material on it, which further led to the scuffle and eventually the murder.
The plot involved sedating Sandeep with anti-depressant pills and cannabis-infused laddoos. Anjali and Vikash, equipped with ropes went to confront Sandeep at the room he was staying in. The confrontation soon turned into a scuffle which further led Sandeep sustaining severe injuries and subsequently leading to his death.
The murder occurred at 2:30 PM yesterday and the accused left the hotel to flee at 3:20 PM. Both suspects, Anjali and Vikash, were traced to a flight to Kolkata (Flight No 6E 6664) scheduled for departure at 9:15 PM. A police naka at the Borjhar Police Outpost intercepted them at 5:42 PM on their way to the airport.
Key elements of the crime included the recovery of blood-stained clothes, the victim's mobile phone, cannabis-infused laddoos, anti-depressant tablets, and incriminating chats on the accused's phones.
The accused, Anjali Shaw and Vikash Kumar Shaw have confessed to the crime during police interrogation and have been taken in custody. Further details await.
