GUWAHATI: Frequent power cuts in some areas of Guwahati added to the people’s woes already suffering from intense heat on Monday, September 23 before a bout of rain in the evening brought some respite.

In many areas, including Lachit Nagar, Ulubari locals were struggling with not just the sweltering heat but also disruptions to electricity and internet services.
The frequent outages caused frustration, especially among those working from home. Many complained that the lack of internet connectivity and unstable power supply were affecting their productivity, leading to frustration.
"I work from home and rely heavily on the internet. On top of that, it’s unbearably hot," said Priya Sharma, a resident of Ulubari told GPlus.
Talking to GPlus, Joya Das, a frustrated resident of Lachit Nagar, said, "These power cuts are unbearable, especially in this heat. Every day it is the same thing — no electricity for hours. It is so difficult to get through the day, and I don't understand what the department is doing about it. We need a proper solution, and we need it fast."
Ankit Roy, a software engineer from Bhangagarh, talking to GPlus said, "I am stuck in the middle of important work calls, and suddenly, the power goes out. It’s been happening so often that it's impossible to plan anything. We are in the middle of a heatwave, and this just makes things worse."
"With no electricity, the fans and coolers do not work, and it is getting harder to manage the household. My kids are struggling with the heat, and on top of that, there’s no internet for their online classes. How are we supposed to cope with this?", said another resident in Bhangagarh.
However, talking to GPlus, an official from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) said, "The frequent power cuts are happening because of issues with the transformer fuses. We understand how frustrating this is for residents, especially in this hot weather. Our teams are working on it, and we are trying to fix the problem as quickly as we can to restore normal power supply."
