“Dumping building materials and littering on roads will lead to fines,” the developments were shared by the municipal body on social media platform ‘X’.

First, a resident of Bhaskar Nagar was fined ₹4,000 for stocking construction and demolition (C&D) materials on a public road. In a separate instance, a resident of Natun Basti was penalised ₹10,000 for littering. The civic body reiterated that both acts are punishable offences and attract fines under applicable municipal rules.

The latest actions are part of GMC’s continuing drive under the “Our Guwahati, Our Responsibility” campaign aimed at curbing unhygienic practices and promoting civic responsibility among residents.

Earlier, on April 25, the body had fined a resident of Baripara ₹500 for dumping household waste on a public road and contributing to unhygienic conditions. On April 8, a food outlet on BN Saikia Road was fined ₹3,000 for illegal roadside dumping.

Similarly, a bakery on CPB Road was penalised ₹30,000 on March 24 for discharging wastewater into public drains after repeated warnings were reportedly ignored.

GMC has stated that continued non-compliance by individuals or commercial establishments will result in stricter penalties in the future.
