Guwahati Police Officer Suspended For Drinking On Duty

GUWAHATI: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Guwahati Police District, has taken action against a police officer following a report dated October 29, from Fatasil Ambari Police Station.

As per the report submitted by Inspector Satish Sahoo, who serves as the Officer-in-Charge of Fatasil Ambari Police Station, UBC/1218 Om Prakash Singh, a police officer stationed at Fatasil Ambari Police Station, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.

The suspension comes as a response to allegations of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty on the part of Officer Om Prakash Singh.

This decision is pending a departmental inquiry into the matter.

During his suspension, Officer Om Prakash Singh will receive SA (Subsistence Allowance) as admissible and will be attached to OR, West Guwahati.

Earlier, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, GP Singh, had posted on X stating that there is “zero tolerance towards police personnel being inebriated on duty or while in uniform even if off duty.”

The complete post read, “A video of police personnel drinking liquor on duty in Guwahati has been brought to my notice. We have zero tolerance towards police personnel being inebriated on duty or while in uniform even if off duty. They shall meet the same fate as many others before them. I’ve directed most severe lawfully permissible departmental action. @assampolice @GuwahatiPol.”
