Guwahati Police Cracks Jalukbari Murder-Cum-Robbery Case, Arrests Five


 
GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police arrested five people for their alleged involvement in the murder of 60-year-old Ajit Chetia on April 9, 2022.

The accused have been identified as Saidur Rahman, Surat Jamal, Abdul Rashid, Dilbar Khan, and Rafiqul Islam.

According to police, the deceased's wife, Babita Konwar Chetia, on April 10, 2022, informed Mailgaon Out Post that during her absence, some miscreants barged into her house by breaking the iron grill and the main door and killed her husband.

The miscreants also looted some valuable articles from the house, including jewellery, the police said.

"In this connection, Jalukbari PS Case No. 219/2022 u/s 396 IPC (dacoity with murder) was registered, and Guwahati Police took up the investigation. The police team investigated, and one suspect, Majnur Ali, was arrested. However, no recoveries or solid evidence could be found from him. The case was pending since then," stated an official police release.

The case was recently revisited, and a Special Team from Crime Branch Guwahati was entrusted with further investigation.

The team carried out further investigation and zeroed in on a suspect. During the investigation, it was found that the suspect was working somewhere in Bangalore.

Accordingly, a team from Guwahati Police was deputed to Bangalore in search of the suspect. The team carried out meticulous planning and, with the help of Bangalore Police, picked up Saidur Rahman.

He absconded after the incident, hid in Bangalore, and worked as a driver in a private company. He was picked up on February 25. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and named his associates in the robbery-cum-murder.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime.

The investigating team has been able to seize and recover one golden-coloured chain, and three numbers of golden-coloured bangles which were looted were recovered.
