GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police arrested two thugs from Milan Path in Lalmati area on August 11. They have been identified as Anil, from Hisar in Haryana and Vinod from Delhi.
According to a tweet by Guwahati Police, a special squad conducted a raid in the rented house of Anil and Vinod. The squad was led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Assam Police Headquarters, and Basistha Police Station. The police recovered 158 ATM cards, one Point Of Sale (POS) machine, and two phones. The police also recovered cash amounting to Rs 21,950.
Speaking to G Plus, the Officer-In-Charge of Basistha Police Station said, “We received information, and raided their house. While being interrogated, they said that they arrived at Assam on August 5. But this must be a lie. They might have been staying for many months and deceiving people.”
About the ATM cards the OC added, “We will verify the ATM cards soon. Many card holders are from Assam. It can be said based on the names written on the ATM cards. Moreover, one of these cards matched with a missing ATM card reported from Chandmari area. The prime targets of such thugs are mostly people above 45 years, and women. They wait inside the ATM for potential targets to insert the card. Then they trick the card holder offering help and exchange the cards.”
The police have initiated the investigation. Further details are awaited.
