GUWAHATI: With Durga Puja just around the corner, the District Commissioner of Police in Guwahati has rolled out a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the city’s celebrations on Thursday, October 3, ensuring safety and security for all participants. Among the key directives are cleanliness and waste management, which require organizers to keep the pandal and surrounding areas spotless during and after the celebration.

Moreover, Durga Puja pandal organizers are mandated to install CCTV cameras, both inside and around the premises, in consultation with local authorities. Surveillance measures will be closely monitored to deter any possible incidents and ensure a secure environment for devotees.

In addition to heightened security, organizers must set up a 24x7 help desk to assist visitors throughout the event. Adequate lighting at all pandals and surrounding areas is non-negotiable, with a backup power system in place to handle any outages. Generators are required to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the celebrations, especially during peak hours.

Emergency preparedness is also a top priority. Each pandal must designate a specific area for emergency access and evacuation.
