Guwahati Driver Rescued From Kidnappers In Meghalaya

 

GUWAHATI: Amit Kumar Sinha, a driver from Guwahati, was rescued by police after being abducted and taken to the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. The kidnappers had demanded ₹1 crore for his release.

The East Guwahati Police District, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police, conducted the operation, recovering both Amit and his vehicle from Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills. Amit had been abducted after picking up two customers who originally requested to be driven to Jalukbari. The trip, which was initially negotiated for ₹350, later led to a detour to Hatsingimari for ₹7,000.

After crossing Goalpara, Amit was restrained and moved to the back of the vehicle, eventually being taken to an undisclosed area. During his captivity, he was physically assaulted and threatened with weapons. The kidnappers initially demanded ₹1 crore from his family, but later agreed to ₹20 lakh, pressing them to sell property to meet the ransom.

Following a week of captivity, police intervened after Amit’s family filed a complaint. Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Diganta Barah, confirmed the successful rescue, stating, “On September 28, we received the news about Amit Sinha’s abduction. With the support of the Meghalaya Police, we successfully rescued him.”
