GUWAHATI: The Durga Puja at Rest Camp has reached a significant milestone this year, marking its 75th anniversary with a spectacular pandal that is drawing devotees from far and wide.
The centrepiece of this milestone year is the pandal itself, which has been meticulously designed around the theme of an aquarium. As devotees enter, they are greeted by a mesmerizing scenario of fishes gracefully swimming beneath and beside them, creating an enchanting atmosphere as they move forward to seek the blessings of Maa Durga.
The budget for the decoration and crafting of the idol is estimated to be around ₹40 lakh. To bring this artistic vision to life, skilled artisans were brought in from Siliguri, who as per the committee members of the Rest Camp originally hail from Kumortoli, Kolkata showcasing their craftsmanship in every intricate detail.
The 17-foot-tall idol of Maa Durga, the centerpiece of the festivities is valued at around ₹3 lakh.
The celebrations at Kalibari, Rest Camp commenced ahead of the Durga Puja festival, inaugurated on October 15. People from across Guwahati have been flocking to the venue in droves to witness the marvel.
In addition to the religious aspects of the celebration, the community has also come together to host a variety of cultural competitions, adding to the festive atmosphere and providing a platform for local talent to shine.
Talking to GPlus, a committee member of the Rest Camp Durga Puja Committee said, “It’s our diamond jubilee celebration. We have organised several cultural programs and competitions since October 15 which will end on Panchami. People have already started visiting the pandal in flocks.”
This 75th-year milestone of Rest Camp Durga Puja stands as a witness to the enduring traditions and the creativity that the community brings to this sacred celebration, drawing people from all walks of life to partake in the festivities.
