This was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, January 1.

The bridge’s name aims to acknowledge Kumar Bhaskar Varma’s pivotal contributions to Kamrupa’s (Guwahati) prosperity and his impact on Assam’s cultural and political legacy. “This is a fitting tribute to a legendary ruler,” Sarma said.

With a projected completion date of this year, the bridge will ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Guwahati and North Guwahati. Vehicles other than trucks and commercial buses will be exempt from toll charges once the bridge is operational.

“We plan to dedicate this vital infrastructure to the people after July 2025,” Sarma added.
