GUWAHATI: The Garchuk police apprehended a motorcycle theft gang, arresting four individuals during a city-wide raid in Guwahati on Thursday, May 30, in a crackdown.

The operation followed a complaint regarding a stolen bike from the parking area of Ayursundra Hospital in Garchuk, Guwahati.
The investigation led to the apprehension of the gang's mastermind, Jiban Bordoloi, also known as Jiban Das. Under interrogation, Bordoloi revealed the involvement of his associate, Bhola Dey, who was subsequently arrested in Byrnihat. He used to be the receiver for the payments that came in from Bangladesh in lieu of the two-wheelers being siphoned off across the border.
Officials also arrested Gobind Basumatary, a gang member who provided crucial information about the stolen motorcycle and the locations of other gang members. This information also led to the capture of Chandra Bhumik, another member of the gang.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from the Garchuk police station said, “We suspect that more individuals are involved in the gang and are currently interrogating the arrested suspects to gather further information. The gang's modus operandi involved stealing motorcycles and selling them across the border in Bangladesh. We are also investigating more into it.”
