GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court (HC) on Saturday, April 9, acquitted the mother and sister of the main accused in the Shweta Agarwal murder case.
The three accused in Shweta’s murder case included the prime accused Govind Singhal, his mother Kamla Devi Singhal and his sister Bhawani Singhal.
There will be re-hearing in the case of the main accused and alleged boyfriend Govind Singhal. A fast track court awarded Singhal the death penalty on August 3, 2019.
Shweta Agarwal was brutally murdered in 2017 in Guwahati after Govind, out of anger, reportedly smashed her head into a wall. He then burned the body inside the bathroom of the house with the help of his sister and mother, reports said.
Upon interrogation, Govind Singhal confessed to the murder and explained to the police the pre and post-murder circumstances and how he later tried to cover up the murder by putting the body into a gunny bag and then burning it, reports said.
At the time of the incident, Shweta was a student of 5th semester B Com student at KC Das Commerce College. Her charred body was found in the bathroom of the rented house of the Singhals.
