Guwahati: Most App-based Vegetable Home-delivery Services Failing Due to Lack of Adequate Manpower

GUWAHATI: G Plus had earlier reported that the district administration of Kamrup (M) had authorised 10 organisations and individuals to provide home delivery of vegetables for Guwahatians during the ongoing lockdown.

Of the 10 delivery services, G Plus had also individually checked and confirmed that only 5 were currently in position to be operational and could carry out the home delivery services.

However, complaints poured in from many citizens of Guwahati that most of these services were not being able to deliver orders on time and some had even cancelled or rejected many orders.

In trying to understand the matter and problems thereof better, G Plus took stock of the situation and found that the Taza Sabji app is currently not delivering due to shortage of manpower.

The apps that are now extending home delivery services of vegetables are Mohabaahu Fresh, nefresh.in, www. wefarmfresh.com and Local Farmers.

There is also a group of reporters from a reputed media house who have come forward to help by connecting the citizens with the vegetable vendors. Partha Baruah can be contacted in 88110 11944/ 91012 71651.

Answering to our queries, most home delivery service providers informed that due to insufficient delivery personnel or manpower orders were not being able to be serviced by on time. As such, most have said that customers could expect delivery within 48 to 72 hours of ordering.

While every app has received orders numbering 600 to 700 per day, the delivered or service-completed rate is quite low at 150 to 300 deliveries per day.

Further, it has been informed that due to lack of packaging materials proper packaging is not being done as per standards. However, citizens are requested to sympathise with the situation. Also the administration has been requested to provide additional support on the same.

It has to be mentioned that a few apps are considering delivery of meat and eggs in the coming days and has sought permission from authorities for this.

Many areas of the city are not being covered by these services; however the concerned managements are making every effort to extend their services.

It has to be mentioned that the district administration has also started sale of vegetables at 82 locations from 8th April. The same has been extended to 91 locations as of late afternoon of 8th April.

Reportedly, these services have been permitted to continue till 14th April for the time being and will be available daily at prices fixed by the authorities till then.
