GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to construct a new residential building for MLAs in place of the current cottages. As a result, the members currently residing in the cottages and the new MLA hostel have been ordered to vacate by July 20.

This was announced through a notification issued by the Assam Legislative Assembly. The decision has been taken as the present cottages are age-old and hence, in a dilapidated condition.

The cottages and the new MLA hostel will be demolished by August 2022.

As an interim arrangement during the construction of the new buildings, Rs 50 thousand will be given as a house rent allowance per month to the MLAs from the date of vacation of the cottages or hostels.

Moreover, the new buildings will be used for various purposes including a guest house, which will be constructed in place of the existing new MLA hostel.
