GUWAHATI: A young woman named Ankita Das Kashyap was brutally attacked with a knife by an individual identified as Amit Bhowmik in Guwahati's Survey, Beltola locality.

Bhowmik had allegedly been stalking Ankita and harassing her mentally for a while. Ankita had lodged a police complaint at Dispur police station on May 28, citing Bhowmik's threats and persistent stalking. Despite this, the assailant continued to harass her, even making threatening calls to her family members.
Ankita's mother expressed her dismay with the police's handling of the situation, stating that despite their complaints, Amit Bhowmik was not arrested promptly. She emphasised that Ankita had no romantic involvement with Bhowmik and had repeatedly rejected his advances.
On, Thursday, Bhowmik hid in Ankita’s apartment and attacked her with a knife grievously injuring her in the process. An associate of Ankita also got injured while trying to save her during the attack. Both of them have been admitted to a hospital in the city.
An official from Dispur police station told GPlus, "The victim claims that she was frequently followed by him. The accused has been absconding. We are still trying to find him."
The victim and the accused both work at B Borooah Cancer Institute.
