GUWAHATI: The body of a man was recovered on Monday near the Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) in Jalukbari after he had reportedly drowned in a pond near the campus.
As per initial reports, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) carried out a recovery operation during which the body was recovered from the pond.
While talking to G Plus, the Officer-In-Charge of Jalukbari Police Station stated that the person had gone to take a bath in the pond on Sunday when he drowned there.

The victim has been identified as Samar Deka.
Upon searching for him when he did not return, his belongings including a mobile phone, footwear, and clothing were found beside the pond.
As per reports, the incident had occurred on June 4 but the body was recovered on Monday.
Also, according to official police statements, the victim was a pharmacist working at a nearby Ayurvedic medicine shop.
Further reports on the incident are awaited and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
