Guwahati Mall Evacuated After Alleged Bomb Threat 

 

GUWAHATI: A bomb threat has been divulged at the City Centre, Guwahati, today August 19, forcing a temporary shutdown of the mall.

The mall has been temporarily evacuated as per the safety measures, and a notice has been put up saying that there is a technical issue and the mall will be shut down for two hours.

A senior police official has confirmed the bomb threat and has also stated that the police are searching for the bomb at the moment. According to official information, a team of bomb detectors along with sniffer dogs have arrived at the location to investigate the matter.

Further details are awaited.

Earlier search was underway across the state after Assam Police received information about suspected bombs planted in various locations on Independence Day, August 15.

Searches were ongoing at Gandhi Mandap, Panbazar, Last Gate, Satgaon, Bhetapara, Rajgarh and Maligaon, among other places in Guwahati. Bomb sniffing dogs and bomb disposal robots have been deployed in Satgaon area. The banned insurgent group ULFA (I) had reportedly claimed responsibility for planting bombs in various parts of Assam.  Apart from Guwahati, bombs had reportedly also been planted in other areas including Sivasagar, Dibrugarh.
