Guwahati: Learner driver runs over elderly in Khanapara ‘walking zone’

GUWAHATI: In a sad incident one elderly morning walker was hit and dragged by a car at around 6 AM near the Regional Science Centre on Tuesday. The victim later identified as Mihirjyoti Kakoti of Joyanagar succumbed to his injuries at the GNRC Hospitals Six Mile.

According to the police, after completing his morning walk Kakoti (71) was returning from Khanapara to his Joyanagar residence when he was hit by a speeding Swift Dzire car AS-01-BJ-1742 dragging him for around 15 feet. The car was being driven by a woman who was learning to drive the vehicle.

Many morning walkers witnessed the accident and rushed to save the victim. They pulled him out from below the car and took him to the nearby GNRC Hospital Six Mile where he lost his fight for life.
