GUWAHATI: Law college students in Guwahati are in distress over admission fees as well as the announcement of semester examinations amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Some students said that despite not having declared the results of the semester examinations, the college authorities have notified them to pay the tuition fees for the next academic session.

"The result of the 8th-semester exam is yet to be declared. And now, they have asked us to pay fees for the 10th-semester exam while the exam for 9th sem has been scheduled from April 30. Other students are scared to open up about this," a student from the NEF Law College stated.

The notification released by the law college for admissions stated, "All students are hereby directed to take admission within 30 April 2021 without fail. The amount to be paid for re-admission is as follows -

2nd semester BA LLB/ BBA LLB/ BCom LLB with annual fee - Rs. 30,000
4th semester BA LLB/ BBA LLB/ BCom LLB - 20,000
6th semester BA LLB/ BBA LLB/ BCom LLB - 20,000
8th semester BA LLB/ BBA LLB/ BCom LLB - 20, 000
10th semester BA LLB/ BBA LLB/ BCom LLB - 17,000

"It is not possible for us to appear in the examination as many of our classmates are from different states and are at home now. The COVID-19 situation in the state is getting worse. I don't think anyone should risk his or her life travelling," continued the student raising concerns over the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

Speaking to G Plus, a NEF law college administrator said, "Due to the COVID-19 protocols some examinations were not conducted in 2020 but discussions were going on to promote the students. However, the decision has been put on hold for now. We are awaiting directions from Gauhati University." However, when asked about the course fee structure, the authorities were reluctant to speak.
