GUWAHATI: In a sensational case of forgery and criminal breach of trust, Chandmari Police arrested one Deepmala Singh, from Kushal Nagar, Bamunimaidam on Wednesday.

According to Chandmari Police, the accused Deepmala took possession of a shop on a lease of 11 months from the mother of one Sharmila Singh. She then allegedly forged the signature of the owner and claimed that the shop was sold to her.

Within 11 months of the possession, Sharmila Singh’s mother expired. Turning this into an opportunity, the accused forged the signature on a sale deed and claimed that the shop was sold to her by the deceased. When the daughter asked Deepmala to vacate the shop she showed her a sale deed.

Sharmila was shocked by the false claims made by Deepmala and filed a police complaint. The Chandmari Police sent the sale deed along with other documents to the Forensic Science Laboratory for handwriting verification and it was found that the signature was fake and forged.

The police have now booked the accused under Section 468/420, and sent her to judicial custody.
