GUWAHATI: Baivav Hazarika, a resident of Bamunimaidam, Guwahati won the gold medal in Powerlifting at the PRO League Asian and World Championships, held in Bengaluru from May 11 to May 14.
Hazarika, aged 19 participated in this event under the Teen category and lifted a total of 610 kg including lifts of 205 kg, 130 kg, and 275 kg for Squat (Open Knee), Benchpress, and Deadlift respectively, to bring home the title.
PRO League India, under the leadership of Saad Khayoom, organised the first-ever Asian and World Raw Powerlifting Championships in India.
The event was held in Bengaluru and witnessed the participation of over a dozen current world champions and athletes from countries such as Portugal, Hungary, Spain, Thailand, and the United Kingdom, competing against India's best athletes.
