Guwahati: Kashmiri man arrested for making derogatory remark against Assam martyr’s widow

GUWAHATI: The crime branch of Assam Police on June 25 arrested Mohammad Abbas Bhat alias Sahil Abbass for allegedly making derogatory comments against the widow of slain Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Sunil Kalita.

Abbass had made obscene remarks against slain Kalita’s wife Padumi on a Facebook page while she was saluting her husband during the last rites on June 15.

According to reports, a three-member team of Assam Police in cooperation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested the Kashmiri youth from Kulgam district.

It should be mentioned that Kalita, who hailed from Assam, died in an attack by Maoist in Seraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand on May 28. He succumbed to injuries at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences on June 13.

An FIR was lodged at Kamalpur Police Station under Section 507 of the IPC and Section 57 of theInformation Technology Act, 2000.
