Guwahati Integrated Global City To Be Developed With World Class Infrastructure

GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Wednesday, March 16, announced the creation of the Amrit-Guwahati Integrated Global City (Amrit-GiG City) in her Budget Speech 2022-23.

According to Neog, the proposed new-age, world-class integrated business city will be fully planned in an area of 1000 acres. It will be integrated with a blend of world-class infrastructure for the next generation industries along with new-age residential and social infrastructure.

"As announced by the Union Finance Minister in her budget speech 2022-23, new legislation shall replace the Special Economic Zones  Act, 2005, enabling states to encapsulate its new provisions and making way for states to become partners in Development of Enterprise and Service Hubs (ESH). Our State is expected to benefit from ESH and it will be a vital component of  Amrit-GiG city," the Minister said.

The Finance Minister said that Assam is gradually moving towards climate-friendly initiatives and sustainable energy sources.

"As an attempt to reduce the carbon footprint, zero-emission based green systems would become the central pillar of the infrastructure envisioned in Amrit-GiG city," Neog added.

This will tap climate finance from the global markets, and the finance from the State Government will help catalyse the mobilising of private investments.

Further, the Assam Government is planning to entrust the preparation of the master plan of the Amrit-Guwahati Integrated Global City to world-renowned consultants.  Phase-I is proposed to be completed by 2030 and Phase-II by 2035.

Additionally, the Government is also in the process of establishing Satellite Townships around Guwahati.
