GUWAHATI: In a groundbreaking achievement, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has successfully achieved its first pregnancy through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) in Guwahati.
The medical team at GMCH, led by Dr Abhijeet Sharma, Superintendent of GMCH, has marked a significant milestone in reproductive health.
Today, on August 16, 14 days after the embryo transfer, the eagerly awaited news was confirmed – the patient's pregnancy test came back positive.
Speaking to G Plus, Dr Sharma stated, "Patient ovum underwent ovum pickup on 14 June and embryo transfer was done on August 2."
"On 16 August, after 14 days of the embryo transfer, the patient's pregnancy test came positive," Sharma added.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to Twitter to put out the information.
“It has been my long standing dream that Assam’s government hospitals must offer quality IVF facilities. I am happy to announce that Gauhati Medical College & Hospital has successfully achieved the first pregnancy through IVF. My best wishes to the blessed couple and Team GMCH,” Sarma’s tweet read.
