GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on February 16 awarded the First Prize to Manaswita Mahanta from Guwahati under the ‘Assam Bachao’ campaign. Manaswita, 23, hails from Sixmile area of the city.

Mahanta has been assured that she would receive the prize soon which is an iPhone 12.

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) launched a social media contest as part of its manifesto building campaign called ‘Assam Bachao’ inviting netizens of the State to create and share a short, two minute video about the various civic issues that Assam is facing today.

G Plus spoke to Mahanta who confirmed the news saying, "I received a call on February 16 informing me that I was the winner of the Assam Bachao Campaign and requesting my presence in another video call later in the evening. I was expecting that I would be congratulated by a party member but it was Gaurav Gogoi on the other end. He was gracious and we discussed issues ranging from women empowerment to development goals."

"I have not received the iPhone yet, but I am glad that I could highlight a few problems that our city suffers from," she added.

The Sixmile resident's video entry highlights the problems that women face returning home or even stepping out after dark in areas without adequate streetlights. Eve teasing, bag snatching or theft are a few of the problems she chose to speak about.

More than 10,000 people have so far covered various issues of the state in the ‘Assam Bachao’ video contest.
