Guwahati Girl Urges PM Modi to Include Self-Defense Training in Schools

GUWAHATI: A class 9 student from Guwahati, Assam has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to include free self-defense training in school curriculums all over India.

Minakshi Singha, a student of Pragjyotish Senior Secondary school, Boragaon, Guwahati sent the letter addressed to the Prime Minister of India on November 19, 2020 by speed post. 


In the letter, the 16-year-old girl stated, "At a time when cases of attack and violence against women are on the rise, I am requesting you to include free self-defense training for girls in school curriculum all over the country, so that schools kids, specially girls are taught about self-defense, which will instill confidence in them and protect them in the time of need."


Minakshi Singha is a Wushu athletic with three years of training. She has been organising a free self-defense training workshop for girls every Sunday at the Maligaon area under the guidance of her master Sifu Gopi Singh Lama for the last one year.
