GUWAHATI: A woman from Guwahati is set to be part of an international expedition to Antarctica. Sukanya Saikia, a resident of Birkuchi, has been selected for the International Antarctic Expedition as a climate force ambassador. She is one of the 80 persons selected from across the world. The process involved a rigorous selection process with a written exam and personal interview.

The expedition will be 12 days long and would require corporate and crowd-funding of about 20,000 USD. She is currently devising a plan to start the funding.

"The climate march is expected to start from 3rd November, 2021 in Argentina," Sukanya Saikia informed G Plus.

Sukanya is overwhelmed by the support she has received from the people back home and especially the media who have supported her achievement.

Sukanya has earlier worked as a researcher and completed her master's from the TERI University in Delhi. She is an alumnus of the prestigious Miranda House in Delhi and St Marys School, Guwahati. She is currently pursuing a research project at the National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway.
