The MLA's daughter and her cousin were asleep when they were attacked by two miscreants. The daughter received injuries to her head. The other family members saw two men entering the house who after hitting the girl fled the scene. This was told to G Plus by her uncle whose daughter was also hurt.

Both the girls are now admitted to Downtown Hospital, Guwahati, and are under ventilation. "The doctors have not been able to state whether they are still out of danger," Ali Akbar told G Plus.

Meanwhile, Akbar Ali has alleged that the attack might be due to political reasons.

"If they wanted money, they would have entered my room. They knew what they were doing," added Ali.

However, another incident has also been raised as a reason for the attack on the girls.

Akbar Ali earlier had helped the police to arrest a few thieves who had committed robbery in their colony. As per Ali, the thieves, after their arrest, had threatened him with dire consequences after they'd get out of jail.

The police have confirmed the attack on the girls. Hatigaon Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Biren Deka has informed that the police is investigating the matter. They are trying to ascertain the motive.

Akbar Ali Miya was a former MLA from West Bilasipara, Assam.
