Guwahati First City To Use E-Vehicles For Garbage Collection


GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) launched two advanced mechanised road sweeping machines and 60 e-Light Commercial Vehicles (E-LCVs) for door-to-door waste collection, positioning Guwahati first in the country to utilise e-LCVs for household garbage collection.

It was informed by GMC today through a press statement.

The mechanised road sweeping machines, procured at a cost of ₹5.87 crores, will be used for cleaning major roads within the GMC jurisdiction. These machines are designed to effectively mitigate dust and ensure efficient street sweeping.

In addition, the introduction of 60 e-LCVs, acquired at a cost of ₹6.69 crores, will address air pollution issues while collecting garbage. GMC also plans to establish fast charging stations to support e-LCVs.
