GUWAHATI: Guwahati has reportedly emerged as India’s fastest-growing destination for international travellers in global travel agency Agoda's annual New Horizons ranking list.

According to Hotelier India, the city has drawn global attention for its mix of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and modern amenities. Tourist attractions such as Kaziranga National Park, river cruises on the Brahmaputra, and nearby wildlife sanctuaries have reportedly added to its appeal, while enhanced air connectivity has also played a role in boosting the city’s popularity.
The Northeast has also reportedly witnessed a steady rise in tourism, supported by events like the Hornbill Festival, Ziro Music Festival, and Shillong’s Cherry Blossom Festival.
High-profile concerts have further boosted the region’s profile, with Guwahati recently hosting Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, while Shillong saw a concert performed by Bryan Adams in 2024. Additionally, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been scheduled to perform in Meghalaya’s capital on 12 February.
The ranking, based on accommodation booking trends over the past two years, also highlighted Puri as the top trending domestic destination and Langkawi, Malaysia, as the most popular international spot among Indian travellers.
