The students of Cotton University in Guwahati have opposed the offline exams scheduled to be held from February 24 onwards.
The students had come to the college premises to collect their admit cards ahead of the semester exams. However, they have been vocal against the decision to conduct examinations in offline mode.
The students have criticized the move by the college authorities to hold exams following the recent COVID cases linked to educational institutions.
"We had requested the authorities to reduce our syllabus earlier. None of the demands were met. Now, they are telling us to have exams from tomorrow knowing full well that we are near a containment zone at Don Bosco," said Ratul Paswan, an undergraduate student.
The authorities have assured the students that proper sanitization and cleaning will be done on the premises. But, the students claim that no such measures have been done.
"Even though they tell us they will sanitize, we come by public transport. How will that help our cause?" an undergraduate student expressed, speaking to G Plus.
There lies an uncertainty over the whole matter. G Plus contacted the senior official of the Examination Department who stated, "nothing can be commented on the matter."
On the issue of whether the exams will be commenced on February 24, the official declined to comment.
Amid the uncertainty, the students have claimed to face added pressure in lieu of the events. "I already had a parent who suffered from COVID-19 and a serious ailment. I have to give offline exams which my parents are not at all comfortable about," said Kristhi Abhilasha Bhuyan, an undergraduate student.
