GUWAHATI: A highly anticipated interclub basketball championship match held between Machine Gun (M.G) Basketball Club and the Gauhati University (G.U) Ballers, was held under the auspice of Kamrup (metro) Basketball Association. However, the organisation is facing scrutiny over claims of unfair and biased decisions that allegedly led to a questionable victory for Gauhati University.
The match commenced on October 13 in Nehru Stadium, Ulubari and the winners of the match were to represent Assam in the National Basketball Championship which will be held in Ludhiana, Punjab.
According to a member of MG Basketball Club, during their match against GU ballers, they were leading in the game with the score line being 13-07 in the first quarter, and 15-12 in the second quarter.
During the match, the MG Basketball Club believed that they were leading the game by 9 points, however during the 3rd quarter the judges tallied the score as 8-14, which gave the GU ballers an upper hand.
Speaking to GPlus, a player of MG Basketball Club said, "There were many instances, where the judges didn't record our points and just to be sure, I went to clarify it. But, the judges weren't responding properly and even during the game, they weren't paying any attention.
He further said that, during the match, there were many shots and points scored by the MG Basketball Club which unfortunately was not registered in the scoresheet.
A similar situation happened during the fourth quarter, where the judges scored it 17-21, which came as a shock to the MG Basketball Club players.
"Immediately after the match, with the help of the video, we tallied the scores by ourselves and the scorelines for each quarter were 15-7, 13-12, 13-11 and 18-21," the player further said.
The Machine Gun Basketball Club, concerned about perceived discrepancies in the points awarded during the game, sought to address these issues by approaching Kamini Sharma, the Secretary of the Basketball Association.
However, rather than resolving the situation, it is reported that Kamini Sharma responded by allegedly issuing threats and questioning the legitimacy of the club's recording permission.
Speaking about the discrepancy, Kamini Sharma said, "It is a rule of the game that if there is any problem, it should be addressed within an hour after the game, however, the team didn't raise any issue."
Kamini further claimed that the association can't do anything currently as the match has concluded.
