GUWAHATI : City Crime branch on Tuesday raided a tin factory located behind Hotel Bhargav Grand here in Guwahati.
The raid revealed that two companies namely, Surya Lume and M/S Arati Traders who occupy the area behind Hotel Bhargav Grand and produce tin roofs and sheets are possibly tampering with the products to dupe customers.
At the raid, the crime branch weighed the 25mm tin roofs being produced by the companies and it was revealed that the sheets weighed lesser (lighter) than other 25mm sheets, which indicates that the companies were duping customers while charging them for actual 25mm sheets.
This throws light on a much bigger scam possibly in the making where tin roofs being sold in the market are tempered with and cheat the customers on weight.
Previously, several concerns were raised about customers being cheated while purchasing GC Sheets.
Allegations had been made where roofing sheets did not meet the specifications which were printed on the sheets and dealers and distributors were aware of the scam.
A similar modus operandi was used by Government contractors who allegedly purchase sheets from local companies and got higher thickness printed on the sheets.
The matter is now under investigation. More details to follow.
