Guwahati: Child Rescued From Ghoramara Area

GUWAHATI: In a significant development, a child labour case was brought to light on July 17 in the Ghoramara area, resulting in the rescue of a young victim by the dedicated efforts of Childline Kamrup Metro and the District Child Protection Unit.

The rescued child, a 15-year-old from Udalguri, had been working as domestic labour in the Ghoramara locality.

The incident came to light when the mother of the victim reported the matter to the Dispur Police Station. The authorities quickly responded by forwarding the case to the Hatigaon police, who subsequently transferred it to the Basistha Police Station for further investigation. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the Kamrup (M) Childline official stated that the incident was reported around 6 PM on July 17.

After the child's rescue, the authorities ensured the immediate safety and well-being of the victim by placing in an NGO-based shelter home known as Kalyani Niwas. The shelter home will provide a supportive environment for the child while they go through the necessary legal processes.

The child was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), who then handed over the custody to her mother.
