Guwahati: Chief Justice Forms Committee to Decide on Resumption of Physical Courts

GUWAHATI: The Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court has constituted a five-judge committee to take a decision on resumption of physical Courts.

The step was taken after The Bar Council of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim sat for an hour-long protest demanding the resumption of physical courts on Thursday, August 13. 

They also demanded the regular functioning in all subordinate Courts and reopening of the Advocate Association office and bar libraries which were closed following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The five-judge committee will have interactions with the stakeholders on August 17, informed the secretary of The Bar Council of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, Kulesh Goswami. 

He added that the Registrar General of Gauhati High Court (Principal Seat) has intimated the Council's chairman Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury of this move.
