Guwahati: Body Found In Brahmaputra River At Sukreshwar Ghat

GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, Guwahati Police on Wednesday evening, December 14, 2022, recovered the body of a man from the Brahmaputra River near the Sukreshwar Temple Ghat area in Guwahati. 

The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Raj Kumar Agarwal who hailed from the Santipur area of Guwahati. 

A case has been registered at the Panbazar Police Station in this connection and an investigation is underway to ascertain the reason for his death. 

Speaking to G Plus, Officer-In-Charge, Panbazar Police Station, Rustom Raj Brahma said, “the body was recovered on Wednesday at around 4:20 PM in the Brahmaputra River in the evening near the Sukhreshwar Temple Ghat area.” 

The Officer-In-Charge further informed G Plus that, “No external injuries were found on the body and there is no foul play which has been suspected by the Police, thus far. The body has been sent for an autopsy today morning and the police will be receiving the report within a week.”

Rustom Raj Brahma, OC, Panbazar Police Station speaking to G Plus added that the deceased’s associates and relatives informed the Police that there is no ground for Raj Kumar Agarwal to have committed suicide and that he used to frequent the Brahmaputra Riverside. Sources in the Police said that the deceased had a problem with habitual consumption of alcohol.
